Rivers of the Balkans Itinerary

Days 1 & 2 – Fly to Dubrovnik, Croatia

Depart the U.S. and fly overnight arriving in Dubrovnik, Croatia by the afternoon of Day 2. We will meet for a welcome dinner that evening. You may opt to arrive in Dubrovnik a couple of days early to explore this historic walled city and adjust to the time change.

Day 3 – Drive Dubrovnik to Zablak

The 4-hour drive will take us from Croatia across a short section of Bosnia and Herzegovina and into Montenegro, where we will stay in the mountain resort town of Zablak, the gateway to the Durmitor mountains.

Day 4 – Durmitor National Park, Put-in on the Tara River

After breakfast, take a short drive to the put-in for the Tara River in Durmitor National Park. The Tara flows through the deepest canyon in Europe. We’ll spend the first night at a lodge along the river.

Day 5 – Rafting the Tara River

We will continue downstream with stops to visit waterfalls and do some short hikes.

Day 6 – Take-out on Tara River, Drive to Sarajevo

Today is our last day on the Tara River. At take-out we’ll the enjoy a riverside feast before driving to Sarajevo where we spend two nights.

Day 7 – Tour Sarajevo

We’ll take a walking tour with highlights including the 600 year old Baj Mosque, the site where World War I began, and a visit to the Sarajevo Tunnel.

Day 8 – Raft the Neretva River, Drive to Mostar

In the morning, we’ll paddle the beautiful Neretva River and then drive 2 hours to Mostar. We’ll spend the night at a hotel near the famous Stari Most, an iconic bridge that spans the Neretva River.

Day 9 – Tour Mostar

Mostar is perhaps the most iconic city of Bosnia and one worth exploring. We’ll do a short tour in the morning and you’ll have the afternoon free to explore this beautiful city.

Day 10 – Back to Dubrovnik

After breakfast, we’ll drive 3 hours back to Dubrovnik and arrive with some time for shopping or sightseeing before a farewell dinner.

Day 11 – Back to U.S. or Continue Vacation

Wake up in Dubrovnik and the world is your oyster! Fly back to the U.S. or continue your vacation.
