The best way to get to Troy, Oregon is via NWRC floating the Grande Ronde from Minam. Why? It is an unforgettable four days and three nights of pure enjoyment in an unique, changing environment that is visually and viscerally rewarding. The topping for the trip were our guides, Brodie and Emily. Not only are they excellent on the oars, their comradery, camp setup and food even made the daily rain fun! Do watch out for Emily, she is a card shark and Brodie's luck is boundless. On our trip, the water was high and running fast. Emily and Brodie were very mindful of our safety as well as comfort. Their awareness of the surroundings, spotting Big Horn Sheep and exploring adjoining creeks were an added bonus. On the final day I experienced running the river in an inflatable kayak called a ducky. What a hoot!! Couldn't wipe the smile off my face if you tried. Highly recommend the Grande Ronde float and a walk across the bridge to Troy! Thanks NWRC and especially Emily and Brodie.

Explore the beauty of Northeastern Oregon for four days on the Grande Ronde and Wallowa Rivers. The remote feeling, big mountain scenery, and diverse wildlife provides for an excellent river trip. With the river flowing from the Wallowa Mountains, this float is perfect for the spring and early summer.

Rafting on the Grande Ronde River
Rafting on the Grande Ronde River

The wildlife diversity on the Grande Ronde will be something to write home about. There are large herds of elk, playful, swimming otters, bighorn sheep, mountain goat, coyote, bald eagles, mergansers, chinook, steelhead, rainbow trout, mule deer, whitetail deer and more. The mellow pace of the river allows for lots of time to search for these animals throughout the day and at camp.

Around each river bend seems to be a new side creek flowing into the Grande Ronde. These creeks present some opportunities to hike up and possible get above the river for some stunning canyon views. Occasionally, the dense brush and steep terrain will make these hikes hard but still doable for the adventurous rafters.

In addition to the wonderful days on the water, the nights at camp make the trip even more quality. The numerous large ponderosa pine bars make excellent camps, with the best views around.

We operate under special use permit with the Umatilla National Forest. Additionally, we are an equal opportunity provider and employer.
